When visiting Antalya one of the most popular areas to explore is Kaleici or Old Town, the center of the city, once ruled by Romans, Byzantine then the Ottomans. In addition to historic sights, beaches, and heaps of shops, Kaleici offers up some great places to dine.
Here are some of recommendations for you to try while in Kaleici:
When you arrive at Ayar Meyhanesi you will be greeted with a friendly smile and offer to select the fish of your choice. Along with the fresh fish you will be served a salad and can select other sides to accompany the fish. The atmosphere is exquisite and comfortable. Read other reviews here
We joined friends here for a birthday party serving grilled sea bass along with delicious sides such as pickled beets, grilled calamari, or sautéed spinach with yogurt. The service was excellent and helpful in selecting items from the menu.
Burgers/ Fish & Chips
If you are hungry for a burger or a chicken salad, Beerzone is a great place to eat. The menu is small, but the items offered are all delicious. Try the fish and chips with savory French-fries. Staff is energetic and the atmosphere is festive.
Famous Steak House & Gastro Bar (aka Famous Kitchen)
Delicious hamburger spot to grab a bite to eat after a long day sightseeing. Cocktail and beer options available to accompany your burger and fries. Prices are reasonable and service is friendly. Read more about other experiences.
Dubh Linn Kaleici
Although it has an Irish name, I wouldn’t say the food offered is Irish. Although they have a good selection of beers to choose, it is a great place to eat Fish & Chips. Prices are reasonable and service is excellent. The seating is mostly outdoors which is strategic to observe the diversity of Antalya while you eat. Check what others say about Dubh Linn.
Gazetta Brasserie Restaurant
Attached to the Alp Pasa Boutique Hotel, this cozy restaurant offers some of the best Italian dishes in old town. The backyard’s charming atmosphere makes it a lovely place to enjoy a meal. The menu offers a wide selection of Italian cuisine but for those that don’t like Italian food there is also burgers and salad options.
If pizza is what you are looking for to eat late at night, then stop at Rotto Pizzeria. Pizza is sold by the slice or you can order an entire pizza. The crust is thin and the ingredients are fresh.
Rokka Pizza Falafel
If you are looking for a vegetarian menu, Rokka is the place to go! Although many tourists rave about the falafel (which is not my favorite) they also serve up a yummy pizza. The restaurant has a nice bohemian vibe.
Pio Gastro Bar & Bistro
Pio Gastro Bar& Bistro is considered one of Antalya’s fine dining restaurants, although the décor is more relaxed Latin-style. Latin street food entrees offered, cooked over charcoal fire. My favorite item on the menu is the fish tacos! The food is delicious; but I must warn you, the portions are small. Read more about the menu and service here.
Iva Gastro Bistro & Sushi
Although authentic sushi is difficult to find in Antalya, Iva Gastro Bistro & Sushi has many options to choose from on the menu. This hidden gem of a restaurant offers a beautiful garden to seat in while enjoying a meal. On occasion a musician will be playing in the evening.
Tucked away on a side street is Haveli Restaurant with a variety of Indian entrees. The restaurant has some unusual hours so check to make sure they are open. The restaurant’s atmosphere is more similar to café but the food is unbeatable. If you are ready to take a break from eating Turkish food this may be a good option!
- Hours: Tuesday -Sunday; 18:00 – 22:00
- Location: Atatürk Caddesi Haşimişcan Mah 1306 Sokak Merkez Muratpasa., Antalya 07100 Turkey
Paşa Bey Kebab Restaurant
Located off Isiklar Street, tucked away on a side street is an excellent place for the best Turkish food in all of Antalya, Paşa Bey Kebab Restaurant. We have been eating here for years and when we have guests visiting, we always like to take them here for a good Turkish meal with outstanding service. A variety of kebab options are available but one of my favorite items to order is the lahmacun.
Castle Café and Bistro
If you are looking for a menu that offers a variety of dishes then stop at Castle Café. Entrees such as fried calamari, onion rings, French fries, and shrimp are available. They also serve sandwiches, wraps, burgers, salads, and other grilled dishes on the menu.
Luna Garden Bistro Café
Offering a garden like atmosphere this lovely restaurant makes it easy to please everyone’s taste buds. Luna Garden offers sandwiches, burgers, sushi, and so much more on their menu. Also, if you want to stop and enjoy a coffee or cocktail you can find that here.
These options are just the tip of the iceberg of the many options you have in dining in Kaleici. I have picked a few of my favorites but would love to hear from you what is your favorite place to eat.
