Carvoeiro, a coastal town in Portugal’s Algarve region, offers a delightful array of activities and sights for visitors seeking a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration. The cobblestone streets tell a story, and every cliffside vista steals your breath.
The main reason for our visit to Carvoeiro was to embark on a boat tour that would guide us along Portugal’s coastline. Following the boat tour, we strolled through the town, enjoying the sights and admiring its natural beauty.

Benagil Cave Boat Tour
One of the must-do experiences here is a boat tour to the mesmerizing Benagil Cave – a natural wonder that whispers tales of the sea. Hop aboard a boat from Carvoeiro Beach, where the crystal-clear waters and the promise of hidden treasures set the stage for an unforgettable adventure.
As the boat gently glides along the coastline, immerse yourself in the stunning cliffs along the water’s edge. Marvel at the intricate limestone formations that have been shaped by centuries of sea sculpting, creating an otherworldly spectacle.
We booked our tour with Carvoeiro Tours, which has over 30 years of experience in giving clients a unique experience through wonderful views and organized tours. You will board the boat at Carvoeiro Beach, where they will provide a lifejacket and instructions. The guide speaks English and will share information about the coastline and important sites to admire. Along the way, you will visit 10 to 12 caves. The tour takes approximately one hour.
- Kayaking and Stand-Up Paddleboarding: Another option to consider is going kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding. You can find many guided tours to explore Benagil Cave by way of kayak or paddleboard online.

Carvoeiro Boardwalk and Algar Seco
Take a stroll along the Carvoeiro Boardwalk, a wooden 570-meter boardwalk offering spectacular views of the coastline and the Atlantic Ocean. Head to Algar Seco, a series of mesmerizing cliff formations, and don’t miss the stunning sea arch known as the “Devil’s Eye.”
Stop and enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view of the azure Atlantic Ocean from Miradouro da Senhora da Encarnacao. This scenic lookout, adorned with the statue of Our Lady of the Incarnation, provides a serene escape where visitors can revel in the beauty and the expansive seascape.
Carvoeiro Beach
Relax on the golden sands of Carvoeiro Beach, nestled in the heart of the town. The beach is surrounded by cliffs, providing a cozy and scenic spot to soak up the sun or enjoy a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters.
Praia da Marinha
Venture slightly beyond Carvoeiro to Praia da Marinha, often regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The dramatic cliffs and secluded coves make it a perfect spot for beach lovers and photographers alike.
Alfanzina Lighthouse
For panoramic views of the coastline, visit the Alfanzina Lighthouse. The scenic walk to the lighthouse is rewarded with breathtaking vistas of the sea and surrounding landscape.
