Urla: A Coastal Haven of Tranquility

Urla province is close to the metropolitan city of Izmir, making it a great place to visit for the day. This small village has so much to offer you.

MAP OF WINE ROUTE

Begin by immersing yourself in the breathtaking natural beauty of its vineyards. Urla’s wine route is one of the top things to experience while visiting. There are seven wine producers marked with road signs.

My favorite way to spend time in Urla is to stroll through the center of Urla on Zafer St. and shop or experience local wines. You will find boutiques, art galleries, bars, and restaurants on both sides of the streets.

Another site to visit in Urla is the Ancient City of Klazomenai, where olive oil was believed to be invented. You can get a more in-depth understanding of olive oil making at the Kostem Oil Museum. If you like to spend time in nature, then step over to Uzbaş Botanical Garden and wander through thousands of acres of nature.

Charming Alaçatı

I have heard so much about Alaçatı and am excited to see what this village has to offer. We wander through the quaint streets with charming stone houses adorned with vibrant bougainvilleas. Boutiques and artisanal shops offering unique treasures adorned both sides of the streets. We indulge in a leisurely shopping spree, immersing ourselves in the town’s creative energy.

Make sure to stop and visit the ancient windmills that date back to the 19th century, overlooking the entire village. If you are in town on a Saturday, you can experience the Saturday Bazaar.

This would be a great weekend getaway place for a couple of days to spend and enjoy all the shops and restaurants.

Çeşme: A Tapestry of History and Natural Beauty

Our next stop brings us to the mesmerizing Çeşme Castle, an architectural masterpiece steeped in history. Traverse the castle’s ancient walls, climb its towers, and gaze upon panoramic views of the Aegean Sea. Lose yourself in the tales of battles fought and stories of bravery woven into every stone. Snap a photo in front of the Cezayirli Gazi Hasan Pasa statue, standing tall in front of the castle.

We did a little shopping on Inkilap Caddesi, on the east side of the main square, to find a few souvenirs to take home. As you wander the streets, you can see the traditional Çeşme houses, dating back to the late 19th century.

Step inside the historical Kanuni Caravansary Hotel with Ottoman architecture. Another historical building to check out is Ayios Haralambos Church, a 19th-century Greek Orthodox church used today as an exhibition hall.

Take a leisurely stroll along the enchanting Çeşme Marina, where azure waters shimmer under the Mediterranean sun. Here, luxury yachts and traditional fishing boats harmoniously coexist, creating a picturesque backdrop for your adventure.

Sığacık is a captivating coastal town that offers an array of delights for those embarking on a day trip from Izmir. One of the highlights is the opportunity to explore the ancient city of Teos, nestled nearby. Marvel at the well-preserved amphitheater, envisioning the grand performances that once took place there. After delving into the rich past, head back to the city center and meander through the narrow cobblestone streets, admiring the charming architecture and browsing the local shops. Relax on the idyllic sandy beaches, enjoying the tranquility and the refreshing sea breeze. Indulge in a scrumptious meal at one of the inviting seaside restaurants, savoring the flavors of the Aegean cuisine.
